Empowered Girl

Project Theme: Bridging the Gap for Rural Teenage Girls

Wazuri aims to provide comprehensive support to teenage girls in rural areas, focusing on three crucial areas: scholarships, digital literacy, menstrual hygiene management, and psychosocial support. By addressing these intersecting needs, the project seeks to empower girls with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to thrive and achieve their dreams in this digital age while promoting their overall well-being and self-esteem.

Project Objectives:

1. Scholarships

  • Give financial support for girls who may not have the means to stay in school. This will cover tuition fees, menstrual care kits, and school supplies, reducing the financial burden on the girls and their families.

2. Digital Literacy Training:

  • Conduct digital literacy workshops and training sessions to equip girls with essential computer skills, internet literacy, online safety, and information searching capabilities.
  • Provide access to digital devices and internet connectivity, enabling girls to explore educational resources, online learning platforms, and engage in digital communication.

3. Menstrual Hygiene Management:

  • Raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene practices, breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation in rural communities.
  • Provide girls with information on menstrual hygiene, proper use of sanitary products, and environmentally friendly alternatives.
  • Distribute menstrual hygiene kits that include sanitary pads, hygiene products, and information booklets.

4. Psychosocial Support:

  • Establish safe spaces and support groups where girls can freely express themselves, share experiences, and receive psychosocial support.
  • Conduct workshops on self-esteem, body positivity, assertiveness, stress management, and coping mechanisms.
  • Provide counseling services and referrals to professionals for girls in need of additional support.

5. Mentorship and Role Models:

  • Establish mentoring programs that connect girls with successful women from various fields, inspiring them and providing guidance on education, career choices, and personal development.
  • Organize motivational talks and panel discussions where girls can interact with female role models from rural backgrounds who have overcome challenges and achieved success.

6. Community Engagement:

  • Engage parents, teachers, and community leaders through awareness campaigns, workshops, and discussions on the importance of supporting girls’ education, digital literacy, and menstrual hygiene management.
  • Collaborate with local organizations, schools, and community groups to foster a supportive environment for girls and sustain the project’s impact.
